Climate Change: a Challenge and an opportunity for more equitable health in Scotland

Presenters Joanna Teuton from NHS Health Scotland, working within the National body with a remit for reducing heath inequalities and improving population health who are leading work in Health Scotland about how we integrate climate change into health improvement/ health inequalities agenda.

and Ruth Wolstenholm, working for Sniffer which is a Scottish sustainability charity, one element of their work is delivering Adaptation Scotland – a programme funded by the Scottish Government. This programme delivers work across all sectors in Scotland to help organisations, business and communities prepare for and build resilience to the impacts of climate changes. Particularly in understanding how these climate change effects might exacerbate health inequalities and what we can do to support climate change adaptation which contributes to equitable health outcomes

Their session at the Sustainability Climate Conference 2018 shared the basis of the work being done with Adaptation Scotland and think about how learning can be applied from their in public health to inform responses to climate change effects to have triple wins – environmental, health and equity.
